Our mission is to provide high quality and economically viable leisure and event and conference venues and facilities, for the promotion of the widest possible range of cultural, physical, sporting, health, quality of life and economic related benefits to residents, communities, customers and visitors.
BH Live aims to contribute to the health and wellbeing of Bournemouth’s residents and visitors and to the economic and cultural prosperity of Bournemouth by:
- Developing and expanding sport and physical activity programmes in response to demand and therefore widen participation
- Adapting facilities to meet the ever changing leisure market and remain recognised as a leading leisure provider
- Increasing participation through promoting, monitoring and targeting use by groups and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
- Working with partners to access grant funding and promote healthy living and well being through exercise and education
- Providing opportunities for sports and club participation to assist individuals to fulfil their maximum potential
BH Live will contribute to the cultural and economic prosperity of Bournemouth and the region as a place to live and business tourism destination, through the provision of the widest possible range of quality arts and cultural events, conferences and exhibitions. We will focus on:
- Delivering a high quality mix of arts, cultural and entertainment events
- Working with partners to promote cultural events within the town
- Targeting increased occupancy and audiences through sales, programming and working with partners and promoters
- Developing the programme of in-house exhibitions and events across all venues
- Promoting Bournemouth as a premier business tourism and visitor destination
- Targeting large conferences
The organisation also aims to be locally and nationally recognised by our customers, clients and business partners for our exceptional quality and range of leisure and event experiences.
BH Live has appointed a Board of Trustees who work with the Chief Executive and executive management team to ensure that the core values and aims of BH Live are achieved.
BH Live (Enterprises) Ltd, been established to manage the non charitable activities, primarily relating to Conferences and Exhibitions.
Key Facts
- Extensive range of sport, recreation and leisure facilities, with a national reputation for excellence recognised by QUEST and the National Benchmarking Survey (NBS).
- Over 70 sports and fitness clubs operate from the leisure facilities, over 300 weekly fitness classes are provided and over 300,000 swims and 200,000 gym sessions are enjoyed with 6,500 people currently having a leisure facility membership package.
- Littledown Juniors Football Club has operated for 22 years and has 1200 football players in the pre and school age range.
- The Littledown food & beverage operation has 6 indoor and 2 outdoor outlets. To date in 2009, 82,000 hot meals and 208,000 hot drinks were served.
- The Bournemouth Swimming Academy operates from the leisure facilities – teaching over 3000 adults and children to swim each week.
- Theatre and large cultural event provision for audiences ranging from 250 to 6500 with over 500,000 ticket sales per year

- Over 3 million visits to the seven venues per year provide a combined annual turnover of approximately £23 million
- High quality conference and exhibition facilities for over 600 events per annum including large national and international associations, political parties, corporate clients, trade shows and catering events with a range of support services to promoters and clients contributing £62 million economic benefit to Bournemouth through business tourism
- The BIC was voted Number 1 UK Town Convention Centre in 2006.
- In 2006/07 the BIC/Pavilion won Outstanding Customer Service and Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Awards. - In 2008/09 the BIC was shortlisted by South West Tourism for the Meet England Business Tourism Award; and also shortlisted by AIPC – the International Association of Congress Centres – for the World’s Best Congress Centre.
- In 2009 the BIC/Pavilion won Bournemouth Tourism’s Best Evening Experience award; and were Highly Commended in the Outstanding Customer Service and Contribution to Conferencing and Business Tourism categories.
- The Pavilion Theatre celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 2009, having opened in 1929 as a concert hall and ballroom.
- The BIC and Pavilion generate over £100 million per annum in direct and indirect economic benefit to Bournemouth’s Tourism, Leisure, Hospitality and Retails business sectors through their Conference, Exhibition and Meetings events.
